From the Fields: Harvest time is truly family affair

We’re doing soybeans today just west of Pontiac. We are trying to get all of the fields that are farther away done so we can get everything moved back home before the rain comes in.

A friend of mine, Josh Donze, is running the combine. We’ve worked with him since 2019 doing harvest together — his acres and our acres.

My niece, Eliza Gutierrez, is running the auger cart.

My sister, Melissa Whalen Smith, is moving the header cart and drives one of the semis. But on soybeans here we’re just a half-mile from the elevator so we don’t need two trucks. Normally, Melissa and I run the trucks.
