From the Fields: Warm nights take big bite out of corn yield

We picked some corn before the rain last week. We got from 2.5 to 2.7 inches of rain.

The corn yields are about average, around actual production history. They are not as good as the last couple of years. The corn we hauled to the elevator was not very excitable for test weights at around 55 to 56 pounds.

I think that goes back to grain fill because we did not have any cool nights for a while. So, the corn plants never had time to expire. We probably did not get as good of grain fill this year as we normally do.
