Corey Lacey new NREC director

SPRINGFIELD, Ill. — Corey Lacey was named executive director of the Illinois Nutrient Research and Education Council.

Lacey brings experience spanning agricultural research, nonprofit leadership, public policy and coalition development.

His connection to the council began as a graduate researcher conducting NREC-funded research on nutrient management, cover crops and nitrogen cycling.

Lacey most recently served as environmental policy manager for the Illinois Soybean Association, leading work at the intersection of nutrient stewardship, conservation, policy and farmer profitability.

His focus areas at ISA included environmental policy development, climate-smart commodities, conservation policy and state and federal pesticide policy.

Prior to working at ISA, he managed an agricultural testing laboratory based in central Illinois.

Additionally, he has over a decade of agronomic experience working with Illinois growers.

He earned his bachelor’s degree in environmental soil and water science at the University of Arkansas, a master’s degree in agriculture science at Illinois State University and a doctorate in soil fertility and conservation at Purdue University.

“Corey brings a strong combination of scientific expertise, agricultural leadership and an understanding of the challenges facing Illinois farmers,” said NREC Chairman Don Guinnip, a Clark County farmer.

“His ability to connect research with practical outcomes will help NREC continue delivering value to Illinois agriculture.”
