We finished harvesting soybeans on Oct. 11 and corn on Oct. 20. Excessive heavy rainfall and a downburst or two left the path of chaos in one field, which made it difficult to harvest the corn.
We had one field of soybeans that was in adjacent field that was blasted to the ground and had to be cut one way. Overall, the weather for harvest has been amazing. We could not ask for a better harvest forecast than what we have encountered so far.
I have not calculated all of the corn tickets yet. I have one field that was no-till corn because this particular field can get very wet, so the less disturbance of the soil is usually best.
The local meteorologist forecast a likely drought, so I assumed I was making the best choice to no-till this field. But excessive moisture left me with a few pockets that held a couple feet of ponded water which produced ears like a nubbin of anything at all. But on the flip side, the soybeans averaged 63 bushels to the acre.
