Illinois Beef partners with Indiana Beef Council to grow grilling confidence in women

A select group of women attended Girls Who Grill, an exclusive event designed to build confidence around grilling.

LAFAYETTE, Ind. — It was a memorable day for a select group of women who attended Girls Who Grill, an exclusive event designed to build confidence around grilling.

Hosted by Illinois Beef and the Indiana Beef Council, the event took place at an Angus cattle operation near Lafayette in west-central Indiana and combined hands-on grilling education with a festive fiesta theme.

The event featured a meat-cutting demonstration from University of Illinois meat scientists Bailey Harsh and Millie Moore, along with a Grilling 101 demonstration.

It also brought together women from many walks of life, including social media influencers, athletes, educators and farmers.

Throughout the day, attendees had the chance to connect with one another and find common ground through beef — because beef has a way of bringing people together.

Sharing Beef’s Message Beyond The Event

Social media is an essential medium for sharing the message of beef. Videos from attendees that appeared on social media after the event maximized the impact beef has on women and, even beyond that, their families.

The nutrients beef offers give parents energy and keep kids growing. Protein from beef keeps athletes going, too, and that is just one of the top 10 essential nutrients it offers.

One Purdue University athlete was able to attend the Girls Who Grill event and gain insight in grilling which will hopefully be shared with fellow athletes.

Illinois Beef offers a variety of classroom education resources, too, including a Grilling 101 in-person course similar to the demonstration given at this Girls Who Grill.

Hopefully, the single-day event will continue to influence where the message of beef is going throughout the coming year.

Most importantly, Illinois and Indiana Beef Council board members had the opportunity to witness the event and talk with the various attendees there, an example of putting real consumers in front of real producers.

Women from different walks of life experienced this Girls Who Grill fiesta, ending with a delicious fajita meal that included the steak they grilled.

Each woman took home goodies to use in their kitchen, including a “Beef. It’s What’s for Dinner.” spatula and a brand-new apron to commemorate their experience.
