This is my favorite time of the year. It is the time when new life is created.
It has taken a village, actually a city, and many months, but the effort to bring back agriculture education to Dixon High School is nearing completion.
It seems winter was cold, brutal and over. I saw a robin this morning, so it must be spring. Even the mud disappeared in just a few days.
The fat market has moved lower now that the holiday buy is completed, but I don’t see the justification. There are no more cattle out there and demand seems to be just as good.
We finally got a frost that finished off our corn after wheat. I have been busy pumping manure and did not get involved with chopping that last field of corn, but Brett reported it had made 12 tons.
What does “vigorous physical activity” mean? Per the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, it means the hard stuff, like playing basketball or singles tennis, or swimming laps or running, ideally for 75 minutes per week.
We have not received any real precipitation since we started chopping corn, so the dusty roads have been an issue, but on the flip side we haven’t had the chain hooked to trucks yet.
The 166th Indiana State Fair ended after 18 days of fun, food, education and entertainment. Highlights included the new Indiana Farm Bureau Fall Creek Pavilion, the Illuminate Lantern Display, basketball-themed exhibits and more.

A few days ago, former President Barack Obama, a basketball junkie, said “this is the best time of the year.” What he was excited about was the fact the NCAA Division 1 men’s basketball tournament is played each March to determine the national champion.
At this time of year, many Hoosiers prepare and look forward to traditional events and gatherings. Indiana agriculture has its traditions, too.
The theme for the 2023 Indiana State Fair, to be held July 28-Aug. 20, is “Basketball: Celebrating the State that Grew the Game.”
The rush is on as the hustle and bustle of the holiday season ramps up. It seems like there’s never enough hours in the days or days in the weeks leading up to Christmas.
