Make the most of technology on the farm

INDIANAPOLIS — From drones and smartphone apps to automated equipment, technology in the agricultural industry continues to grow.

Chad Colby of Colby AgTECH shared advice for farmers to make the most of technology at the Indiana Farm Equipment and Technology Expo.

1. Make a plan. “You’ve got to have a plan on your farm,” Colby said. “You’ve got to determine where you’re deficient. Where’s the next amount of money you’re going to spend?”

2. Real-time decisions. “In my opinion, you have to invest in technology that’s going to help you make real-time decisions right now,” Colby said.

3. Time is your most valuable asset. “If we can use technology to help in that regard, it’s important,” Colby said. “Time is your single most valuable asset on your farm.”

4. Push your limits and calculate your results.

5. Don’t be afraid to fail. “The reality is, you can’t be afraid to fail,” Colby said. “But you’ve got to try (different) things.”
