Annual Lambing School coming Sept. 12

The Indiana Sheep Association will host the annual Lambing School on Sept. 12.

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. — Registration is open for the annual Lambing School hosted by the Indiana Sheep Association.

The program will run from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sep. 12 at Purdue University’s Sheep Unit.

All experience levels can learn the skills required to successfully manage a lambing ewe.

Extension Educator Jamie Reed and Purdue Vet School assistant professor Laura May will instruct and supervise the workshop.

Program highlights include:

• Tools and supplies a shepherd needs to be prepared for the lambing season.

• How to troubleshoot problem births.

• When calling a veterinarian in to help is appropriate.

• Hands-on practice with real fall-lambing ewes.

• Dystocia simulators.

A registration fee of $20 will cover the cost of the workshop and lunch. The class will be capped at 15 students.
