Discuss beef cattle management at Dudley Smith Farm winter meeting

Scheduled for Feb. 16 at the University of Illinois Extension office in Taylorville in Christian County, the Dudley Smith Winter Farm Meeting is a chance to come together to learn through the farm’s traditions, sustainable agriculture practices and hands-on research opportunities.

TAYLORVILLE, Ill. — Discussions and decisions made during the winter months can impact managing a beef cattle operation all year.

The Dudley Smith Farm Winter Meeting is a chance to come together to learn through the farm’s traditions, sustainable agriculture practices and hands-on research opportunities.

The winter meeting will begin at 9 a.m. on Friday, Feb. 16, at the University of Illinois Extension Christian County Office located at 1120 N. Webster St. in Taylorville. A free lunch is provided.

Winter meeting topics will include:

• Reducing fertilizer use on cattle farms.

• The art and science of a successful grazier.

• The impacts of cover crops on planting dates.

• Discuss the related U of I Urbana-Champaign crop sciences updates from ongoing research projects at the Dudley Smith Farm.

There is no cost to attend the meeting. Advance registration is required for lunch by Feb. 13.
