Newton County fair highlights agriculture and community connections

KENTLAND, Ind. — The 107th Newton County Pun’kin Vine Fair will be held July 13-18, bringing the community together with good food, 4-H shows, a carnival and entertainment for the whole family.

“The Newton County fair board works hard to put on several events through our fair week,” said Cory Groover, fair spokesperson.

“The Miss Newton County Queen Pageant has been a long tradition at the Newton County fair. Over the years, several Newton County young ladies have been honored to wear the crown. In 2015, we added another division to the pageant, Miss Teen Newton County.”

This year’s Teen and Queen Pageant will be held at 8 p.m. July 13 at the Grandstand. General admission is $10.

Other Grandstand events include:

• July 11 — Harness racing, free, noon.

• July 13 — Little Miss and Mister Pageant, free, 6:30 p.m.

• July 14 — World Classic Professional Big Time Wrestling, $10 general admission, 7 p.m.

• July 15 — Tasha Layton in concert, free, 7 p.m.

• July 16 — IPA Truck and Tractor Pull, $10 general admission, 7 p.m.

• July 17 — D&D Pro Rodeo, $10 general admission, 7 p.m.

• July 18 — Demo Derby, $10 general admission, 7 p.m.

Newton County Farm Bureau will host an Agriculture of Yesteryear Showcase, including a tractor parade at 6:30 p.m. July 16 and an antique tractor drive at 11:30 a.m. July 18.

Free Stage acts this year include Andrew’s Family Magic Show, Jerry Medeiros Hawaiian-style music, For Pete’s Sake Irish folk band, Acoustic Connection Band, DJ Phil King hosting karaoke night, Farmer Dan, Sound Check DJ, Lindsay Lowe and the Lone Riders, and Holley Drive.
