SPRINGFIELD, Ill. — Illinois State Fair visitors will see updated security measures at all Grandstand entrances this year.
Metal detectors and bag checks will be set up at each Grandstand entrance during the fair, Aug. 7-17.
No backpacks, duffle bags or bags and purses larger than 14 inches by 8 inches are allowed into the Grandstand. Small purses will be allowed; however, they are subject to being searched.
Professional-style cameras and audio or video recording equipment of any size, aside from personal phones and cameras, are not allowed in the Grandstand.
Anyone leaving the Grandstand will be required to go back through the metal detector and bag-check area to reenter.
The following items are prohibited in the Grandstand: Glass containers, including bottles, jars or drink-ware; coolers; wagons; umbrellas; selfie sticks; signs or flags that are on poles or would obstruct the view of others; and any item that may cause harm or disrupt the event.
Mobile Tickets
If Grandstand show attendees purchased mobile tickets, be sure to download the tickets to the Ticketmaster app prior to arriving at the fairgrounds.
This will ensure you have a consistent and reliable Wi-Fi signal to minimize any delays getting into the concert.
Beverage Policy
All beverages purchased at the Grandstand will be opened at the time of purchase. Drinks sold at the track standing-room-only section will be poured into a plastic cup.
Bottles, cans and other sealed containers are not permitted on the track. Outside drink containers — including bottles, cans, Stanley or reusable cups and refillable souvenir cups — are not permitted inside the Grandstand.
“The new security measures aren’t just about enforcement; they’re about prevention, visibility and reassurance. Our goal is simple — keep the fair a fun, secure place for everybody,” said Commander Josh Adcock, Illinois State Police Troop 6.
“At the Grandstand, fairgoers will see walk-through metal detectors, similar to what you already sporting events. This will allow us to detect prohibited items before they enter the venue ensuring safety for all Grandstand attendees.
“Additionally, you’ll see uniform troopers throughout the fairgrounds. That visibility is intentional. Our officers are here not only as a deterrent, but also as a resource. If you need something, please ask a trooper. They’re ready to assist. They’re focused on community engagement, as well as rapid response, as well as response if needed.
“Our new security measures and updates add up to one clear message — we are prepared, we are present and your safety is our top priority.”
