Indiana crop progress for week ending Sept. 20

There were 4.7 days suitable for fieldwork in Indiana for the week ending Sept. 20, according to the National Agricultural Statistics Service, U.S. Department of Agriculture.

Topsoil moisture supply was rated 5% very short, 20% short, 61% adequate, and 14% surplus. Subsoil moisture supply was rated 7% very short, 21% short, 63% adequate, and 9% surplus.

Corn dented reached 90%, compared to 90% last year, and the five-year average of 91%. Corn mature reached 46%, compared to 52% last year, and the five-year average of 49%. Corn harvested reached 7%, compared to 9% last year, and the five-year average of 7%. Corn condition was rated 3% very poor, 7% poor, 29% fair, 53% good, and 8% excellent.

Soybeans dropping leaves reached 59%, compared to 66% last year, and the five-year average of 59%. Soybeans harvested reached 8%, compared to 11% last year, and the five-year average of 8%. Soybean condition was rated 4% very poor, 8% poor, 27% fair, 51% good, and 10% excellent.

Pasture and range conditions were rated 3% very poor, 8% poor, 34% fair, 50% good, and 5% excellent.
