Illinois crop progress for week ending Sept. 20

There were 4.9 days suitable for fieldwork in Illinois for the week ending Sept. 20, according to the National Agricultural Statistics Service, U.S. Department of Agriculture.

Topsoil moisture supply was rated 11% very short, 25% short, 55% adequate, and 9% surplus. Subsoil moisture supply was rated 11% very short, 26% short, 58% adequate, and 5% surplus.

Corn dented reached 94%, compared to 96% last year, and the five-year average of 92%. Corn mature reached 69%, compared to 66% last year, and the five-year average of 63%. Corn harvested reached 16%, compared to 11% last year, and the five-year average of 9%. Corn condition was rated 5% very poor, 9% poor, 29% fair, 43% good, and 14% excellent.

Soybeans dropping leaves reached 67%, compared to 75% last year, and the five-year average of 65%. Soybeans harvested reached 13%, compared to 8% last year, and the five-year average of 5%. Soybean condition was rated 5% very poor, 8% poor, 30% fair, 44% good, and 13% excellent.

Pasture and range conditions were rated 7% very poor, 14% poor, 42% fair, 33% good, and 4% excellent.
