Illinois crop progress for week ending Sept. 6

There were 6.8 days suitable for fieldwork in Illinois for the week ending Sept. 6, according to the National Agricultural Statistics Service, U.S. Department of Agriculture.

Topsoil moisture supply was rated 9% very short, 30% short, 58% adequate, and 3% surplus. Subsoil moisture supply was rated 10% very short, 29% short, 59% adequate, and 2% surplus.

Corn dough reached 96%, compared to 98% last year, and the five-year average of 94%. Corn dented reached 76%, compared to 85% last year, and the five-year average of 78%. Corn mature reached 12%, compared to 25% last year, and the five-year average of 27%. Corn harvested reached 3%, compared to 2% last year, and the five-year average of 1%. Corn condition was rated 4% very poor, 9% poor, 32% fair, 42% good, and 13% excellent.

Soybeans dropping leaves reached 24%, compared to 33% last year, and the five-year average of 19%. Soybean condition was rated 5% very poor, 7% poor, 31% fair, 44% good, and 13% excellent.

Pasture and range conditions were rated 6% very poor, 10% poor, 39% fair, 42% good, and 3% excellent.
