Indiana crop progress for week ending Aug. 2

There were 5.4 days suitable for fieldwork in Indiana for the week ending Aug. 2, according to the National Agricultural Statistics Service, U.S. Department of Agriculture.

Topsoil moisture supply was rated 7% very short, 20% short, 65% adequate, and 8% surplus. Subsoil moisture supply was rated 9% very short, 22% short, 64% adequate, and 5% surplus.

Corn silking reached 87%, compared to 85% last year, and the five-year average of 87%. Corn dough reached 37%, compared to 31% last year, and the five-year average of 32%. Corn dented reached 2%. Corn condition was rated 2% very poor, 7% poor, 27% fair, 55% good, and 9% excellent.

Soybeans blooming reached 84%, compared to 80% last year, and the five-year average of 82%. Soybeans setting pods reached 57%, compared to 53% last year, and the five-year average of 51%. Soybean condition was rated 2% very poor, 6% poor, 28% fair, 55% good, and 9% excellent.

Winter wheat harvested reached 100%, compared to 100% last year, and the five-year average of 100%.

Pasture and range conditions were rated 2% very poor, 5% poor, 32% fair, 55% good, and 6% excellent.
