Indiana crop progress for week ending April 27

There were 4.8 days suitable for fieldwork in the week ending April 27, according to the USDA, National Agricultural Statistics Service, Indiana Field Office.

Topsoil moisture supply was rated 2% very short, 8% short, 70% adequate, and 20% surplus. Subsoil moisture supply was rated 3% very short, 14% short, 67% adequate, and 16% surplus.

Corn planted reached 10%, compared to 7% last year, and the five-year average of 13%. Corn emerged reached 0%, compared to 0% last year, and the five-year average of 1%.

Soybeans planted reached 10%, compared to 7% last year, and the five-year average of 10%.

Winter wheat jointing reached 50%, compared to 58% last year, and the five-year average of 53%. Winter wheat headed reached 4%, compared to 6% last year, and the five-year average of 2%. Winter wheat condition was rated 2% very poor, 4% poor, 24% fair, 55% good, and 15% excellent.
