There were 6.4 days suitable for fieldwork during the week ending Aug. 27, according to the USDA’s National Agricultural Statistics Service Indiana Field Office. Statewide, the average temperature was 78.8 degrees, 6.4 degrees above normal. Precipitation averaged 0.46 inches, 0.22 inches below normal. Topsoil moisture supply was rated 6% very short, 21% short, 71% adequate, and 2% surplus. Subsoil moisture supply was rated 9% very short, 23% short, and 66% adequate, and 2% surplus.

Corn dough reached 82%, compared to the five-year average of 85%. Corn dented reached 32%, compared to the five-year average of 42%. Corn harvested for silage reached 10%, even with the five-year average. Corn condition was rated 3% very poor, 7% poor, 23% fair, 57% good, and 10% excellent. Soybeans setting pods reached 88%, even with the five-year average. Soybean condition was rated 2% very poor, 6% poor, 22% fair, 60% good, and 10% excellent.
