Calendar: Purdue UAV training

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. — The Purdue University Campus Staff/Faculty UAV Training Program will be from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. ET Jan. 5-6 at the Indiana Corn and Soybean Innovation Center, 4750 US-52, West Lafayette.

This two-day event will help prepare aspiring remote pilots to take the certification exam, enjoy some hands-on flight time, and discuss practical applications for UAV technology.

Topics will include FAA test preparation, flight instructions, camera settings, flight plans and record keeping, data management, image quality and troubleshooting, sensors and artificial intelligence, and emergency preparation.

This program is open to Purdue employees who want training for the FAA Part 107 Remote Pilot Certification. On- and off-campus employees are welcome to the program.

Ag Outlook

ROCHESTER, Ind. — Agriculture Economic Outlook will be the topic of the 2023 Fulton County Farm Winter School at 7 p.m. ET Jan. 4 in the Rochester High School Agriculture Department, 1645 S. Park Road, Rochester.

Michael Langemeier, associate director of the Center for Commercial Agriculture and professor in the Department of Agricultural Economics at Purdue University, will discuss farm commodity prices, cash rents and land values. He will provide updates on livestock prices, interest rates and other issues affecting farm inputs and prices.

Cooking for One or Two

ROBINSON, Ill. — The program Cooking for One or Two will be from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. Jan. 4 at the Robinson Public Library, 606 N. Jefferson St., Robinson.

Not as many gathered around your dinner table as there once were? Tired of eating leftovers? Is your “go-to” meal cold cereal because you just don’t want to cook?

Nutrition and Wellness Educator Mary Liz Wright will discuss how to repurpose leftovers into exciting makeovers and how to downsize recipes.

The program will be repeated from 6 to 7 p.m. Jan. 5 at the Paris Public Library, 207 S. Main St., Paris.

No registration is required.

PSEP Testing

HENRY, Ill. — The University of Illinois Extension Private Applicator testing for the Pesticide Safety Education Program will be from noon to 3 p.m. Jan. 4 at the Marshall-Putnam Extension office, 509 Front St., Henry.

Walking Group

GREENCASTLE, Ind. — Beginning Jan. 5, the Winter Walking Group will meet at 4 p.m. ET Thursdays in January and February at the Putnam County Fairgrounds, 191 US-231, Greencastle.

Whoever logs the most minutes walked during the eight sessions will be entered to win a Fitbit sponsored by Putnam County Hospital in Greencastle.

Farm Economic Summit

The University of Illinois farmdoc team returns to the road in January with the Illinois Farm Economic Summit at three locations:

• Jan. 10 at DoubleTree, 222 Potomac Blvd., Mt. Vernon.

• Jan. 11 at Par-A-Dice, 21 Blackjack Blvd., East Peoria.

• Jan. 12 at Faranda’s, 302 Grove St., DeKalb.

Presentations will be from 8 a.m. to noon and will include:

• Grain Market Outlook for 2023.

• South America: Expectations for Agricultural Production.

• Enterprise Budgets and 2023 Farm Income.

• Farm Bill Update.

• Farmland Price and Interest Rate Outlook.

The program will conclude with a Q&A followed by lunch at noon.

The $80 registration fee includes all meeting materials, break refreshments, and lunch.
