Virtual 4-H cooking club focuses on electric pressure cooker techniques

MONTICELLO, Ill. — Electric pressure cookers have been finding a place on kitchen counters for the past couple of years. A safer alternative than the traditional stovetop pressure cooker, the electric pressure cooker offers busy families the ability to save time and stress when preparing meals.

DeWitt, Macon and Piatt 4-H invites junior high and high school youth and their caregivers to join a virtual 4-H cooking club specifically designed to learn the ins and outs of the electric pressure cooker.

Cookin’ in an Instant is a weekly virtual 4-H club that will meet via Zoom from 4 to 4:30 p.m. on Wednesdays, Jan. 20 through Feb. 24. Each week, club members will be provided a shopping list and recipe for a dish, and then encouraged to make that dish at home using an electric pressure cooker.

The following week members will be given the opportunity to share their cooking experiences, as well as tips and tricks for using the electric pressure cooker.

Baked potatoes, chicken rice and pork barbecue are just some of the Cooking with 4-H recipes that members will have the opportunity to make. Participants will need to provide their own food and equipment for the recipes provided. No equipment or materials will be provided by 4-H.

There is a $20 fee, which includes a 4-H membership. Register online by Jan. 15 at go.illinois.edu/dmpEvents. A Zoom link will be emailed once registration is complete.
