Save the date: Indiana Farm Bureau ag contract workshop

Registration is now open for Indiana Farm Bureau’s Agricultural Contracting Program to be held virtually on Thursday, June 26. The program will focus on providing farmers and landowners with a deeper understanding of contracting basics, types of agriculture production contracts and information on renewable energy leases.

INDIANAPOLIS — Registration is open for Indiana Farm Bureau’s Agricultural Contracting Program, which will be held virtually from 9 a.m. to noon ET June 26.

This program will focus on the process of agricultural contracts and leases, providing farmers and landowners with a better understanding of contracting basics and renewable energy leases.

“Working through a contract or lease can often be a cumbersome and overwhelming task for farmers,” said Mark Thornburg, INFB executive director of legal affairs.

“This workshop is designed to help them understand the difference between farmland leases and production contracts, as well as the importance of having a legally binding agreement. We hope they walk away feeling more educated and better prepared when dealing with a farmland transaction.”

The session topics and speakers include:

• “Agricultural Contracting Basics,” presented by Todd Janzen, Janzen Schroeder Ag Law.

• “Agricultural Contracts,” presented by Harrison Pittman, the National Agricultural Law Center.

• “Renewable Energy Contracts,” presented by Brianna Schroeder, Janzen Schroeder Ag Law.

The workshop is sponsored by the Indiana Agricultural Law Foundation, which promotes a better understanding of legal issues facing Indiana agriculture through educational programming, legal research and support of precedent-setting litigation.

Registration for the event is required. The event is free to INFB members and $50 for nonmembers.

Attendees may register at www.infb.org/events through June 24.
