INDIANAPOLIS — The Indiana Senate passed Senate Resolution 36, recognizing the importance of Purdue Extension’s Community Leadership Program.
The resolution was authored by state Sen. Eric Bassler, R-Washington.
“Program participants develop their own leadership capabilities through experiential learning sessions in which program facilitators draw on research-based content, local expertise and context and participants’ collective knowledge, skills and experience,” the resolution states.
Since 2015, the program has grown to nearly 1,000 alumni among more than 70 cohorts in 24 Indiana counties and communities.
Because of it, there are more leaders on public and nonprofit boards, committees and coalitions.
Extension educators and CLP participants visited the Statehouse to celebrate.
“The program is a great way for future leaders, young and old, to get involved in their community by learning about the county while receiving leadership development training that will allow them to make a difference in their community,” said Tom Schaffer, Daviess County Council member.
“Overall, I believe the program to be an effective way to identify and develop young talent within the community, so that they become skilled and knowledgeable leaders to help move the county forward in the future.”
