INDIANAPOLIS — Boilermakers celebrated the annual Purdue Ag Alumni Fish Fry on April 30 at the Indiana State Fairgrounds.Here are a few highlights from the event.Dr. Jerome Adams, Purdue Presidential Fellow and executive director of health equity initiatives and the 20th U.S. surgeon general, was the keynote speaker at the Ag Alumni Fish Fry. Adams emphasized the need for healthy equity in America, sharing stories of his upbringing in rural Maryland on a tobacco farm. Severe asthma once resulted in Adams needing to be air-lifted to a hospital as a young boy due to the lack of healthcare options where his family lived. Ellie Clayton, 4, came all the way from Sandpoint, Idaho, to see her grandfather receive the Certificate of Distinction award at Purdue Ag Alumni Fish Fry. But even Grandpa Mike Veenhuizen would understand that Ellie’s most vivid memory was meeting Purdue’s Thanksgiving turkeys, Peanut Butter and Jelly.
