Storen corn herbicide provides season-long weed control

Syngenta Agronomy Service Representative Jesse Grote discusses the importance of managing troublesome weeds like waterhemp using a herbicide program with overlapping residuals while showcasing the superior weed control of Storen herbicide in trials at the Grow More Experience site near Slater, Iowa.

SLATER, Iowa — Starting clean and staying clean all season long can effectively control weeds and increase yield.

“The main weed issue we see really is waterhemp,” said Syngenta Agronomy Service Representative Jesse Grote at the Grow More™ Experience site near Slater in central Iowa.

“Waterhemp is a really hard weed to control; the big takeaway here at this site has been really putting the horsepower, the power of a strong preemergent herbicide program, in the soil early. So, when we come back with our post applications, we’re not having to kill waterhemp that’s gotten too big and become really hard to control.”

Storen® corn herbicide has four powerful active ingredients — bicyclopyrone, mesotrione, S-metolachlor and pyroxasulfone — designed to work together for maximum residual performance, plus the exclusive crop safener, MetaSafe™ formulation technology.

“From Storen this year, we’re seeing excellent residual control with all those effective active ingredients combined. The length of the residual on a full shot of Storen upfront has been really impressive, and I would say equally impressive has been the residual control we’ve seen out of a split shot of Storen when you put half on pre-emerge, half on post-emerge. It’s been a quality application and excellent weed control with long-lasting residual,” Grote said.

Research shows even small weeds can cause irreversible changes to corn’s growth and development. That is why clean rows from start to finish help deliver the maximum potential return on investment — more than just clean rows at the finish.

“The takeaway from these trials is to use the full labeled rate of a preemergence herbicide with multiple effective modes of action, and then come back with an overlapping residual herbicide with multiple effective modes of action where we can control weeds that are small and there’s fewer of them and our chances for success are much greater,” Grote said.
