We started harvest on the Sept. 11. We started with some seed beans. We grow NK seed beans for Syngenta. We did those first. We pretty much knocked out soybeans and went straight to corn.
Soybean yields have been a record on almost every farm in our neck of the woods. Corn has been the same. We’ve seen some really great yields even on the variable soils that we have.
Harvest has gone really smoothly. It’s been dry. We’ve had field fires in our neck of the woods. We sure could use some rain to get some moisture in the soil before we do tillage work and stuff like that.
We’ve got about 450 acres of corn left, as of Oct. 14. I think, as any farmer agrees, when we can do a fall without mud, that’s pretty great. It’s been a little on the warm side, but we’ve had terrific conditions.
The soybeans were a little bit dry just from the lack of moisture. The corn’s been dry now, so it’s kind of nice I don’t have to pay propane prices and drying at the elevator. It’s been a great season for a great crop in our neck of the woods.
