Triple-action fungicide launch expected next year

Mike Eiberger

JOHNSTON, Iowa — A new fungicide with three active ingredients for corn, soybean and wheat diseases is expected to be available in the 2026 growing season, pending regulatory approval.

Mike Eiberger, Corteva U.S. crop protection marketing leader, gave details of Forcivo fungicide at the recent media event at Pioneer’s headquarters.

Key components of Forcivo are its active ingredients — flutriafol, azoxystrobin and fluindapyr — to help shield crops with overlapping preventative and curative activity while controlling multiple diseases such as tar spot, northern corn leaf blight, gray leaf spot and diplodia.

Flutriafol is the curative piece of the fungicide, azoxystrobin has preventative characteristics, and fluindapyr provides systemic control to extend the residual effectiveness.

“This really provides a solution for every acre for our customers on corn, soybeans and wheat,” Eiberger said.

“We currently have Aproach, with a single mode of action within our portfolio. We also have Aproach Prima, as well as Viatude, within soybeans, with two modes of action.

“Forcivo brings that holistic three modes of action, both preventive, curative and systemic fungicide, for complete control.”

Residual

Beyond the triple modes of action, Eiberger said Forcivo’s residual effectiveness also differentiates it from other fungicides in the market.

“Most fungicides in the market today offer up to at most 21 days of control. With Forcivo fungicide, we really feel there’s a differentiation here where we can achieve up to 30 days control with this product,” he said.

“If you think through the corn crop, from tassel to black layer, it’s roughly a 60-day window to really try to maximize grain-fill, maximize protection. For Forcivo fungicide with that 30-day control, realistically, it’s covering about half of that gap, compared to other fungicides within the market.

“Customers have a lot of choices to make, and when they’re choosing a fungicide, the opportunity to pick out this fungicide in particular that maximizes the length of control, maximizes efficiency, efficacy in particular on diseases, really provides a holistic solution.

“Forcivo has control over key diseases. It really acts as a true shield.”

The recommended application rate is 7 to 9 ounces per acre for corn, soybeans and wheat. Wheat may allow a broader rate range of 5 to 9 ounces, depending on conditions.

“Over my time at Corteva Agriscience, I’ve had an opportunity to work with a lot of farmers and there’s one thing that really sticks out: How do I maximize efficiency? This is opportunity to purchase a fungicide that you can apply across all these key crops and not have to switch out,” Eiberger said.

“This is an opportunity to really maximize efficiency for that farmer, going from crop to crop, field to field, and know that they’re going to be fully covered with appropriate fungicide from there.”
