From the Fields: The right soil conditions

William and Lea Henert check the seed placement on their farm near Ashton, Illinois, where they grow corn, soybeans and seed corn for Wyffels Hybrids. William says this is the best ground conditions for planting he has experienced in the last decade.

This is my 11th year of farming full time and this is the best ground conditions we’ve had for planting. The soil profile is very good right now, probably a touch on the dry side.

We don’t pay attention to soil temperature — if the ground is fit and the calendar is correct, we trust in the seed technology.
