Livingston SWCD hosting soil conservation program

PONTIAC, Ill. — The Livingston County Soil and Water Conservation District is hosting “Soils, Prairie and You: A Conversation for Women” on Wednesday, Aug. 31.

The meeting will be held at the Humiston Woods Education Building near Pontiac beginning with registration at 8:30 a.m. and concluding around 2:30 p.m.

The meeting is designed as a place where women can talk freely about agriculture and conservation issues and learn more about them.

This meeting will focus on soil erosion and ways to combat it by using cover crops and planting native vegetation.

Jannifer Powelson, Stark County SWCD resource conservationist, will be guest speaker and provide her unique perspective on prairie plants. She is also a published author of children’s books and adult mystery novels.

The day concludes with a prairie walk to learn about the different prairie plants at Humiston Woods. Lunch will be provided.
