From the Pastures: Full steam ahead

Hello from Graze-N-Grow. While our helper, Nathaniel, takes charge of the home front, Ruth and I have journeyed to western Nebraska via Kansas on a short vacation.

The views of cattle country is a contrast to the corn and bean vistas of home. Most of what we’ve seen so far have been blessed with rain and green grass except some dryness around the Garden City area in southwest Kansas. We went by Tyson’s packing plant there, by the way. Maybe that will be Joslin’s alter ego.

On the home front, we finally got some rain before we left and the forecast promises more by the time you read this. And hopefully the heat wave is over for good.

The new seeding we clipped after oats looks great as does the clover after we took a cutting off. It may not last through winter, but the ewes and calves should be well-fed for quite some time. Harvest will probably be going full steam when we get home, so as always stay safe in the fields and on the roads. Happy trails.
