Learn from experts at World Dairy Expo

MADISON, Wis. — The World Forage Analysis Superbowl will offer six Dairy Forage Seminars featuring leading researchers, University of Wisconsin-Madison Division of Extension specialists and progressive dairy producers during World Dairy Expo.

The seminars provide practical, research-based information on forage production, harvest, storage and utilization and are approved for one Certified Crop Adviser continuing education credit each.

Wednesday, Sept. 30

• 10 a.m.: “Use of Cover Crops in Dairy Cattle Nutrition” by Ken Kalscheur, research animal scientist for the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Agricultural Research Service at the U.S. Dairy Forage Research Center in Madison.

• 1 p.m.: “How the Challenges of First-Generation Dairy Farming Pushed the Need for Quality Forages” by Seth Huizenga of Huizenga Family Dairy in Brandon in east-central Wisconsin.

Thursday, Oct. 1

• 10 a.m.: “Opportunities in Short-Stature Corn for Improved Silage Yield and Quality” by Harkirat Kaur, assistant professor and extension specialist in in corn production systems at UW-Madison.

• 1:30 p.m.: “What’s New in Corn Silage Harvest Technology?” by Brian Luck, associate professor and extension specialist in biological systems engineering at UW-Madison.

Friday, Oct. 2

• 10 a.m.: “Green Fields, Blue Waters: Phosphorus Loss Reduction from Wisconsin Forage Systems” by Steven Hall, assistant professor and extension specialist in plant and agroecosystem sciences at UW-Madison.

• 1:30 p.m.: “Harvesting the Benefits of Dairy Manure Application” by Eric Young, research soil scientist for the USDA’s ARS at the U.S. Dairy Forage Research Center in Marshfield.

The World Forage Analysis Superbowl is organized in partnership between Dairyland Laboratories Inc., Hay & Forage Grower, U.S. Dairy Forage Research Center, University of Wisconsin and World Dairy Expo.

Serving as the meeting place of the global dairy industry, World Dairy Expo is the premier forum for the global dairy community to learn, share, create commerce and showcase competition.

The annual event will return Sept. 29 to Oct. 2 to Madison. Dairy producers can experience the world’s largest dairy-focused trade show, a world-class dairy cattle show, attend seminars, meetings and presentations highlighting the latest in the industry and connect with other producers.
