UPI announces new roles for Salem facility leadership

SALEM, Ill. — United Producers Inc. announced a leadership transition at its Salem market as Maycey Crain and Mark Kleiboeker step into new roles to serve producers across the region.

Crain has been named facility manager of UPI’s Salem location, where she will oversee all aspects of the operation, including daily facility management, livestock marketing, procurement and sales, customer relations, and personnel leadership.

Former facility manager Kleiboeker will transition into a new role on UPI’s direct cattle sales team. In his new position, he will work closely with producers across the region to support their marketing needs, whether through direct sales or the auction, across feeders, fed cattle and cows.

His expanded role will allow him to build longstanding relationships while continuing to support producers throughout the country.

“Maycey and Mark are both dedicated leaders, and this transition allows us to maximize their strengths in ways that directly benefit our producers,” said Mike Bumgarner, president and CEO of UPI. “Maycey has grown tremendously under Mark’s mentorship, and she is well prepared to lead the Salem facility forward.

“At the same time, Mark’s deep industry knowledge and relationships will continue to be an asset as he works more broadly with producers on their marketing strategies. Together, they will continue to collaborate closely and ensure a seamless experience for our members.”

Crain began her career with UPI in 2014 as a part-time employee. After transitioning to full time, she was promoted to yard supervisor in 2020 and later to assistant facility manager in 2025.

“I’m honored to step into this role and continue building on the success at Salem,” Crain said. “Our focus will remain on taking care of our producers and their cattle, while earning and maintaining the confidence and trust of both buyers and sellers.”

Kleiboeker, who has served as facility manager for many years, has played a key role in the success of the Salem market and in mentoring Crain throughout her career.

He will continue working closely with her in his new role in supporting producers and ensure continued success at the facility.

This transition reflects a natural progression for both leaders and reinforces UPI’s commitment to strengthening service for its members and livestock producers.

UPI serves 30,000 members in Ohio, Kentucky, Illinois, Indiana, Michigan and Tennessee, handling approximately 2.7 million head of livestock per year.

It also offers risk management services, including marketing agreements and brokerage services, and offers competitive agricultural lending products for real estate, farm, operating and livestock financing.
