Milk named official beverage of high school athletes

Milk fuels Hoosier athletes

Milk is now the official beverage of high school athletics in Indiana.

INDIANAPOLIS — Milk was named the official beverage of high school athletics in Indiana by American Dairy Association Indiana Inc. and the Indiana High School Athletic Association.

Cow’s milk provides 13 essential nutrients, including calcium, vitamin D, protein, carbohydrates and electrolytes, leading it to be selected as the drink of choice.

“Milk is a science-backed way to refuel, build muscle, hydrate and strengthen bones, making it the perfect choice for athletes to use to recover and gain a competitive edge in their sport,” said Jenni Browning, CEO at ADAI.

“We are proud to partner with IHSAA to bring education and nutrition to students across Indiana, while also supporting our state’s dairy farmers.”

The partnership will last three years. “Winners Drink Milk” posters will be displayed in all IHSAA high schools.

Celebratory milk will be presented by an Indiana dairy farmer and family at the conclusion of all state championships.

“Our goal at IHSAA is to ensure Indiana’s student athletes stay at the top of their game, both physically and mentally, and we are confident milk will give them the boost they need on the court and in the classroom,” said Paul Neidig, IHSAA commissioner.

“We look forward to partnering with the American Dairy Association Indiana Inc. to fuel our students and strengthen Indiana’s legacy of high school athletics.”
