World Pork Expo speakers set to tackle tough topics

DES MOINES, Iowa — From foreign animal disease outbreaks to carbon markets and sustainability, speakers at the 2022 World Pork Expo will address all the tough topics facing the global pork industry.

Attendees at the World Pork Expo, now in its 34th year, will be able to attend a series of business seminars, sponsored by various industry partners, and the Pork Academy, sponsored by the National Pork Board, to get the latest information and updates on all the hot topics in the industry.

“These seminars provide opportunities for pork professionals to stay on top of the latest challenges, topics, trends, and innovations in our industry,” said Terry Wolters, president of the National Pork Producers Council and owner of Stoney Creek Farms near Pipestone, Minnesota.

The business seminars start at noon on June 8. Sponsored by industry partners including ADM, Cargill and Zoetis, topics of the seminars include feed additive portfolio and the amino acid market; sustainability of modern protein production; economic outlook for the crop and pork industry, optimizing profitability; and gilts vs. barrows.

The National Pork Board and Pork Checkoff’s Pork Academy starts at 8:30 a.m. June 8 with coffee and talk with Bill Even, CEO of the National Pork Board, who will discuss current topics in the U.S. pork industry.

Frank Mitloehner of the Clarity and Leadership for Environmental Awareness and Research Center at the University of California, Davis, will discuss sustainability in another Pork Academy presentation on June 8.

On June 9, the Pork Academy series starts off back-to-back presentations on foreign animal disease, with “The Alphabet Soup of Disease Response,” that features a panel of swine health experts, followed by “Depopulation and Disposal,” with animal welfare experts from the National Pork Board.

Pork Academy finishes up with “Decoding Carbon Markets” with Sara Crawford, vice president for sustainability for the National Pork Board, and the Pollination Group.

The World Pork Expo takes place June 8-10 at the Iowa State Fairgrounds in Des Moines.
