Ag Days coming to South Bend April 10-12

Ag Days is an annual tradition hosted by the St. Joseph County Ag Team.

SOUTH BEND, Ind. — St. Joseph Ag Days will be held April 10-12 this spring as a free, interactive way for families to learn about agriculture.

The event will be held in the Commercial Building at St. Joseph County 4-H Fairgrounds in South Bend.

The hours are: 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. April 10, 10 a.m to 5 p.m. April 11 and 11 a.m to 4 p.m. April 12.

Ag Days is one of the largest indoor ag education events in northern Indiana. Children and adults can meet draft horses, sheep, goats, pigs, beef, rabbits, poultry, dairy cows and calves.

They can also pick an apple from the apple tree, gather an egg from the hen house, milk a cow, see the production of maple syrup, watch ducklings play on a water slide and more.

The event also includes live demonstrations and the chance to purchase products directly from farmers.

Visitors will start at the welcome barn, grab a basket and learn about agriculture from farm and garden stations. A product will be placed in each child’s basket after they learn about each commodity.

After their basket is filled, children deliver the basket to market where they “sell” items in exchange for a cookie and some milk.

Lastly, there will be four pedal pull classes for ages 5-6, 7-8, 9-10 and 11-12 on Saturday afternoon. Sign-up begins at 1 p.m. and the games begin at 2 p.m.
