Supply, prices steady in Christmas tree grower survey

A truckload of Christmas trees hits the road.

HOWELL, Mich. — Eighty-four percent of Christmas tree growers say they anticipate no increase in wholesale prices this year, according to the Real Christmas Tree Board.

“Growers are prepared, supply is strong and most are holding wholesale prices steady this year,” said Marsha Gray, executive director of board.

“This reflects the consistency of the real Christmas tree industry and the commitment of growers to ensuring that there’s a real Christmas tree for everyone who wants one.”

The board conducted its annual wholesale grower survey in August.

Key findings include:

• Supply is strong — 89% of survey respondents said they found the tree they wanted at the first place they went.

• Impressively, 90% of survey respondents said they had no issues locating a place nearby to purchase a tree and 98% said they found a tree they loved.

• Less than 5% increase in input costs.

• Small increases in input costs are generally being absorbed instead of passed along to consumers.

• Nearly eight in 10 growers expect to sell the same number of trees or more compared to last year.

“A real Christmas tree is so much more than a Christmas decoration,” Gray said.

“Our customers create lasting memories with family and friends while heading out to select their tree and enjoy the scent that will fill their home all season.”
