From the Fields: Yields ‘nothing to brag about’

Mindy Orschell

We are about 85% complete with corn and only have a small replant field of beans that remains to be cut. Moisture on both corn and beans has been fairly ideal, so we should see very little natural gas needed to dry down the crops this year.

Yields have been a mixed bag, for sure. Of course, our earlier beans yielded better than later beans this year thanks to Mother Nature turning off the precipitation around July. Honestly, corn yields were a small ray of sunshine for us.

This year’s harvest is definitely not as good as last year, but better than I had feared. If I were a dreamer and we received a couple more rainfalls in August, wow, we could have seen record yields, but that unfortunately didn’t happen. Overall, I would have to say it’s a decently good crop, but definitely nothing to brag about.
