NORMAL, Ill.— Compeer Financial, through its Fund for Rural America, announced a transformative gift of $500,000 to the Children’s Discovery Museum in Normal in support of its upcoming exhibit, “From the Farm to a Healthy Me.”
The new exhibit will expand the museum’s longstanding focus on agriculture, nutrition and wellness through interactive, family-friendly experiences rooted in real-world food systems and rural life.
More than 2 million visitors have explored the connections between farming and everyday life in the museum’s “AgMazing” exhibit since 2006.
“From the Farm to a Healthy Me” builds on that legacy with a fresh, immersive approach that educates children and families about the journey food takes from farm fields to kitchen tables and how choices impact health and communities.
“Compeer Financial is committed to strengthening rural communities and inspiring the next generation through education,” said Karen Schieler, manager of Compeer Financial’s Fund for Rural America and Giving.
“This $500,000 investment brings agriculture to life in engaging, accessible ways — highlighting food security, healthy living and the future of farming.”
Beth Whisman, executive director of the Town of Normal Cultural Arts & Children’s Discovery Museum, said innovation will be a central theme.
“Innovation will shape the exhibit experience from interactive elements to the very way we tell agriculture’s story,” Whisman said.
The “From the Farm to a Healthy Me” exhibit will include hands-on experiences where children can explore how crops are grown, livestock care, food processing and the nutritional value of farm-fresh foods.
Young visitors will have the opportunity to role-play as farmers, grocers and chefs, gaining insights into how agriculture supports both personal and community health.
“This exhibit helps connect consumers with where their food comes from and fosters greater awareness and appreciation,” said Jase Wagner, president and CEO of Compeer Financial.
“Compeer Financial is proud to be part of the Bloomington-Normal community and support the places where our team members live and work,” Wagner said.
This gift reflects Compeer Financial’s broader vision of empowering rural communities through education and long-term investment.
The Fund for Rural America supports initiatives that foster agricultural literacy, innovation and rural resilience across the Midwest.
“This generous gift from Compeer Financial ensures that we can bring this vital topic to the forefront in an exciting and meaningful way,” Whisman said.
“The exhibit will encourage families to think differently about their food, appreciate the hard work of farmers and make healthier choices. We’re grateful for Compeer’s continued partnership and their belief in our mission.”
