National 4-H Week: ‘Beyond Ready’ campaign announced

The new Beyond Ready campaign is on a mission to grow the National 4-H organization from 6 million to 10 million students.

INDIANAPOLIS — 4-Hers around Indiana celebrated National 4-H Week Oct. 7-12. The National 4-H organization also launched the “Beyond Ready” campaign.

“Our mission with the Beyond Ready initiative is to grow from reaching 6 million youth annually to 10 million youth prepared to tackle what’s ahead — in school, in work and in life — with the 4‑H community by their side along the way,” an announcement from the national organization read.

Data shows that compared to their peers, 4-Hers are:

• Two times more likely to have the goal of being a leader.

• Three times more likely to participate in community service.

• Two times more likely to report living life with intentionality and purpose.

Research shows that 4‑H youth are more ready for life’s challenges and opportunities than their non-4‑H peers, according to Shelly Bingle, executive director of Indiana 4-H Foundation.

“But we’re doing more than just preparing them,” she said in an email to members and supporters. “4‑H empowers kids to reach their potential and go beyond expectations.

“By going beyond ready, youth can push past what’s expected and imagine what’s possible. That’s why so many 4‑Hers give back — invest in others, serve their communities and make a difference larger than themselves.”

4‑H is also partnering with Casey’s to raise money. For every large pizza bought between Oct. 2 and Nov. 5, Casey’s will donate $1 to 4-H programs, up to $100,000.
