NASHVILLE, Ind. — My father and I go to Brown County in December every year. The tradition is simple — we grab a cup of hot cocoa at the Daily Grind, search for carolers and browse boutiques for unique gifs.

On the way home, we look for scenic view points and pull-offs on the side of the road. The air is cold and clean. And, while winter isn’t everyone’s cup of tea, you can’t deny the beauty of seeing miles and miles of untouched hills stretched as far as you can see.
I want to share 10 of my favorite things to do in Brown County. It’s a great place to visit — no matter what time of year.

Brown County Bucket List
1. Go for a walk or hike at Brown County State Park. Find a spot to watch the sun rise or set — perhaps at the top of the 90-foot fire tower. The views are spectacular. The Nature Center is a great place to stop and learn about the park’s ecosystem.
2. Visit Story, Ind. to experience a small, picturesque country town. It’s especially beautiful in October.
3. In downtown Nashville, stop by Fallen Leaf Books. They have antique and new books, a large selection of local authors — and you can find a gift for just about any reader on your Christmas list there.
4. If you feel like shopping, look for cute clothes at boutiques such as the Cheeky Owl or Foxfire Boutique.
5. If you’re a food lover, Nashville is the place to be. Some of my favorite restaurants include Hobnob Corner Restaurant, Big Woods Pizza and Heavenly Biscuit. There are several stores that sell everything from candy to jerky, to herbs and spices.
6. Go antiquing in Nashville. There are so many treasures to be found.
7. Pick up a locally made Brown County souvenir. Shop online at brown-county-visitors-center.myshopify.com.
8. Go furniture shopping at places like Plum Creek Antiques or Hoosier Barn and Table.
9. Pick up a few gifts for loved ones. Brown County is my favorite place to shop for unique things that you can’t find anywhere else.
10. Appreciate the art. Brown County is filled with talented artists, creating everything from pottery to jewelry, fine art to leather goods — the list is endless.
