Start your engines: State Fair to feature entertaining cars

INDIANAPOLIS — If you’ve ever wanted to see the Batmobile or take a selfie with the Scooby-Doo Mystery Machine, the Indiana State Fair should be on your summer bucket list.

This year’s theme is “Fun at the Speed of Summer” presented by Tom Wood Automotive Group.

The fair runs July 29-Aug. 21, closed Mondays and Tuesdays.

Here are four reasons to start your engines and head to the State Fair:

1. Visit the World of Speed located in the Harvest Pavilion. Visitors will want to make a pit stop at this new attraction, open daily. Cars from movies and television will include the Batmobile, Scooby-Doo Mystery Machine, Ghostbusters Ectomobile and more.

While you’re there, check out the Indiana Automobile Exhibit, which includes a curated collection of classic, early 20th century cars with roots in the Hoosier State.

Also at the World of Speed, stop by SPEED: Science in Motion Exhibit. Fairgoers will be put through their paces to experience what it is like to operate at high speeds through hands-on simulations that test peripheral vision, reaction speed, coordination, concentration and heart rate under stress.

2. Stop by the Ford Model T Rapid Assembly, located in front of the Indiana Farmers Coliseum. Prepare to be amazed as a drivable 1926 Ford Model T is built in just under 10 minutes right before your eyes.

3. Visit the “Indianapolis Motor Speedway Museum Presents Traditions” exhibit, located inside of the Farm Bureau building.

Learn about the iconic traditions associated with the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. Explore photos, videos, music and memorabilia on display.

4. Don’t miss the daily car exhibit, located along Main Street.
