Lake County: Entertainment for the whole family at Lake County Fair

CROWN POINT, Ind. — Visiting the Lake County Fair is like coming home for many members of the community.

Arlene Marcinek has been involved with the fair for 30 years.

“It feels like getting together with your family every year,” Marcinek said. “It’s like a reunion because everybody comes. We catch up with each other’s families year to year. Whether it be the carnival, the vendors or the fairgoers, we keep in touch.”

This year’s fair will be held Aug. 6-15.

Guests can catch the excitement of the All Star Monster Truck Show at 7 p.m. Aug. 6-8 in the Grandstand. For an added fee, you can ride a real monster truck before or after the show.

On Aug. 9-10, the rodeo will come to town. Aug. 12-13 is the West Creek Mud Runners Mud Drags. And a fan favorite, the International Demolition Derby, will take place at 5 p.m. Aug. 14-15.

“There are daily horse shows and 4-H exhibits and animals in all of the barns,” Marcinek said. “The livestock nursery is going to be back this year. In 2019, we were luckily enough to have a birth every day. It runs the Monday of the fair, Aug. 9, through Saturday Aug. 17. The live births will take place in the dairy barn.”

A safari petting zoo will be free and open daily. Come pet llamas, zebras or kangaroos.

Other attractions include pedal pulls, hot wheels racing and much more.
