Illinois crop progress for week ending Sept. 27

There were 5.3 days suitable for fieldwork in Illinois for the week ending Sept. 27, according to the National Agricultural Statistics Service, U.S. Department of Agriculture.

Topsoil moisture supply was rated 11% very short, 22% short, 60% adequate, and 7% surplus. Subsoil moisture supply was rated 11% very short, 26% short, 59% adequate, and 4% surplus.

Corn dented reached 97%, compared to 98% last year, and the five-year average of 94%. Corn mature reached 83%, compared to 83% last year, and the five-year average of 77%. Corn harvested reached 26%, compared to 20% last year, and the five-year average of 17%. Corn condition was rated 4% very poor, 8% poor, 28% fair, 45% good, and 15% excellent.

Soybeans dropping leaves reached 79%, compared to 87% last year, and the five-year average of 79%. Soybeans harvested reached 21%, compared to 19% last year, and the five-year average of 14%. Soybean condition was rated 4% very poor, 7% poor, 29% fair, 46% good, and 14% excellent.

Winter wheat planted reached 6%, compared to 11% last year, and the five-year average of 8%. Winter wheat emerged reached 1%, compared to 1% last year, and the five-year average of 1%.

Pasture and range conditions were rated 7% very poor, 17% poor, 37% fair, 33% good, and 6% excellent.
