Indiana crop progress for week ending Aug. 30

There were 5.8 days suitable for fieldwork in Indiana for the week ending Aug. 30, according to the National Agricultural Statistics Service, U.S. Department of Agriculture.

Topsoil moisture supply was rated 2% very short, 11% short, 71% adequate, and 16% surplus. Subsoil moisture supply was rated 3% very short, 11% short, 70% adequate, and 16% surplus.

Corn dough reached 91%, compared to 89% last year, and the five-year average of 89%. Corn dented reached 48%, compared to 45% last year, and the five-year average of 48%. Corn mature reached 2%, compared to 4% last year, and the five-year average of 6%. Corn condition was rated 3% very poor, 7% poor, 28% fair, 54% good, and 8% excellent.

Soybeans setting pods reached 93%, compared to 93% last year, and the five-year average of 92%. Soybeans dropping leaves reached 3%, compared to 11% last year, and the five-year average of 8%. Soybean condition was rated 3% very poor, 7 poor, 27% fair, 53% good, and 10% excellent.

Pasture and range conditions were rated 2% very poor, 5% poor, 27% fair, 59% good, and 7% excellent.
