Illinois crop progress for week ending Aug. 30

There were 6.3 days suitable for fieldwork in Illinois for the week ending Aug. 30, according to the National Agricultural Statistics Service, U.S. Department of Agriculture.

Topsoil moisture supply was rated 3% very short, 17% short, 73% adequate, and 7% surplus. Subsoil moisture supply was rated 5% very short, 20% short, 71% adequate, and 4% surplus.

Corn dough reached 94%, compared to 95% last year, and the five-year average of 90%. Corn dented reached 62%, compared to 70% last year, and the five-year average of 63%. Corn mature reached 11%, compared to 13% last year, and the five-year average of 11%. Corn condition was rated 4% very poor, 8% poor, 30% fair, 46% good, and 12% excellent.

Soybeans setting pods reached 94%, compared to 94% last year, and the five-year average of 92%. Soybeans dropping leaves reached 11%, compared to 14% last year, and the five-year average of 7%. Soybean condition was rated 5% very poor, 7% poor, 29% fair, 46% good, and 13% excellent.

Pasture and range conditions were rated 5% very poor, 7% poor, 33% fair, 50% good, and 5% excellent.
