Illinois crop progress for week ending Aug. 23

There were 4.3 days suitable for fieldwork in Illinois for the week ending Aug. 23, according to the National Agricultural Statistics Service, U.S. Department of Agriculture.

Topsoil moisture supply was rated 3% very short, 10% short, 68% adequate, and 19% surplus. Subsoil moisture supply was rated 5% very short, 13% short, 67% adequate, and 15% surplus.

Corn dough reached 90%, compared to 90% last year, and the five-year average of 86%. Corn dented reached 47%, compared to 55% last year, and the five-year average of 50%. Corn mature reached 4%, compared to 3% last year, and the five-year average of 3%. Corn condition was rated 4% very poor, 8% poor, 30% fair, 43% good, and 15% excellent.

Soybeans setting pods reached 90%, compared to 90% last year, and the five-year average of 87%. Soybeans dropping leaves reached 2%, compared to 2% last year, and the five-year average of 1%. Soybean condition was rated 4% very poor, 8% poor, 29% fair, 46% good, and 13% excellent.

Pasture and range conditions were rated 4% very poor, 7% poor, 29% fair, 51% good, and 9% excellent.
