Indiana crop progress for week ending Aug. 16

There were 1.9 days suitable for fieldwork in Indiana for the week ending Aug. 16, according to the National Agricultural Statistics Service, U.S. Department of Agriculture.

Topsoil moisture supply was rated 2% very short, 6% short, 44% adequate, and 48% surplus. Subsoil moisture supply was rated 3% very short, 9% short, 51% adequate, and 37% surplus.

Corn silking reached 96%, compared to 96% last year, and the five-year average of 97%. Corn dough reached 69%, compared to 67% last year, and the five-year average of 67%. Corn dented reached 19%, compared to 17% last year, and the five-year average of 15%. Corn condition was rated 3% very poor, 7% poor, 29% fair, 52% good, and 9% excellent.

Soybeans blooming reached 95%, compared to 94% last year, and the five-year average of 94%. Soybeans setting pods reached 81%, compared to 78% last year, and the five-year average of 77%. Soybean condition was rated 3% very poor, 7% poor, 29% fair, 51% good, and 10% excellent.

Pasture and range conditions were rated 3% very poor, 7% poor, 27% fair, 57% good, and 6% excellent.
