Indiana crop progress for week ending Aug. 9

There were 5.5 days suitable for fieldwork in Indiana for the week ending Aug. 9, according to the National Agricultural Statistics Service, U.S. Department of Agriculture.

Topsoil moisture supply was rated 6% very short, 20% short, 68% adequate, and 6% surplus. Subsoil moisture supply was rated 8% very short, 21% short, 66% adequate, and 5% surplus.

Corn silking reached 92%, compared to 92% last year, and the five-year average of 93%. Corn dough reached 53%, compared to 51% last year, and the five-year average of 50%. Corn dented reached 4%, compared to the five-year average of 3%. Corn condition was rated 2% very poor, 6% poor, 26% fair, 56% good, and 10% excellent.

Soybeans blooming reached 91%, compared to 88% last year, and the five-year average of 89%. Soybeans setting pods reached 71%, compared to 66% last year, and the five-year average of 66%. Soybean condition was rated 2% very poor, 6% poor, 27% fair, 56% good, and 9% excellent.

Pasture and range conditions were rated 2% very poor, 5% poor, 32% fair, 55% good, and 6% excellent.
