Illinois crop progress for week ending Aug. 9

There were 5.7 days suitable for fieldwork in Illinois for the week ending Aug. 9, according to the National Agricultural Statistics Service, U.S. Department of Agriculture.

Topsoil moisture supply was rated 4% very short, 20% short, 70% adequate, and 6% surplus. Subsoil moisture supply was rated 5% very short, 23% short, 65% adequate, and 7% surplus.

Corn silking reached 96%, compared to 98% last year, and the five-year average of 97%. Corn dough reached 64%, compared to 66% last year, and the five-year average of 64%. Corn dented reached 14%, compared to 16% last year, and the five-year average of 10%. Corn condition was rated 3% very poor, 8% poor, 28% fair, 48% good, and 13% excellent.

Soybeans blooming reached 92%, compared to 91% last year, and the five-year average of 93%. Soybeans setting pods reached 77%, compared to 75% last year, and the five-year average of 74%. Soybean condition was rated 3% very poor, 7% poor, 31% fair, 47% good, and 12% excellent.

Pasture and range conditions were rated 2% very poor, 6% poor, 32% fair, 45% good, and 15% excellent.
