Illinois crop progress for week ending Aug. 2

There were 5.1 days suitable for fieldwork in Illinois for the week ending Aug. 2, according to the National Agricultural Statistics Service, U.S. Department of Agriculture.

Topsoil moisture supply was rated 5% very short, 14% short, 73% adequate, and 8% surplus. Subsoil moisture supply was rated 6% very short, 22% short, 64% adequate, and 8% surplus.

Corn silking reached 94%, compared to 95% last year, and the five-year average of 94%. Corn dough reached 47%, compared to 50% last year, and the five-year average of 47%. Corn dented reached 3%, compared to 1% last year, and the five-year average of 2%. Corn condition was rated 2% very poor, 9% poor, 29% fair, 47% good, and 13% excellent.

Soybeans blooming reached 88%, compared to 87% last year, and the five-year average of 87%. Soybeans setting pods reached 62%, compared to 64% last year, and the five-year average of 61%. Soybean condition was rated 3% very poor, 8% poor, 31% fair, 48% good, and 10% excellent.

Winter wheat harvested reached 100%, compared to 100% last year, and the five-year average of 100%.

Pasture and range conditions were rated 2% very poor, 5% poor, 34% fair, 44% good, and 15% excellent.
