Indiana crop progress for week ending May 31

There were 4.5 days suitable for fieldwork in Indiana for the week ending May 31, according to the National Agricultural Statistics Service, U.S. Department of Agriculture.

Topsoil moisture supply was rated 3% very short, 12% short, 66% adequate, and 19% surplus. Subsoil moisture supply was rated 4% very short, 12% short, 71% adequate, and 13% surplus.

Corn planted reached 85%, compared to 85% last year, and the five-year average of 88%. Corn emerged reached 70%, compared to 68% last year, and the five-year average of 70%. Corn condition was rated 3% very poor, 7% poor, 29% fair, 53% good, and 8% excellent.

Soybeans planted reached 82%, compared to 80% last year, and the five-year average of 82%. Soybeans emerged reached 65%, compared to 61% last year, and the five-year average of 61%. Soybean condition was rated 3% very poor, 7% poor, 31% fair, 52% good, and 7% excellent.

Winter wheat headed reached 84%, compared to 77% last year, and the five-year average of 79%. Winter wheat condition was rated 2% very poor, 4% poor, 25% fair, 55% good, and 14% excellent.

Pasture and range conditions were rated 1% very poor, 5% poor, 26% fair, 60% good, and 8% excellent.
