Indiana crop progress for week ending May 24

There were 3.1 days suitable for fieldwork in Indiana for the week ending May 24, according to the National Agricultural Statistics Service, U.S. Department of Agriculture.

Topsoil moisture supply was rated 3% very short, 8% short, 65% adequate, and 24% surplus. Subsoil moisture supply was rated 5% very short, 12% short, 67% adequate, and 16% surplus.

Corn planted reached 76%, compared to 74% last year, and the five-year average of 76%. Corn emerged reached 54%, compared to 54% last year, and the five-year average of 51%.

Soybeans planted reached 74%, compared to 69% last year, and the five-year average of 68%. Soybeans emerged reached 53%, compared to 47% last year, and the five-year average of 42%.

Winter wheat headed reached 70%, compared to 66% last year, and the five-year average of 62%. Winter wheat condition was rated 2% very poor, 4% poor, 21% fair, 58% good, and 15% excellent.

Pasture and range conditions were rated 2% very poor, 5% poor, 27% fair, 58% good, and 8% excellent.
